You guys won’t believe it but I snuck away kids-free for an hour this past weekend and headed to Target for a little retail therapy! I was in desperate need of some new clothes and wanted to find some stylish, affordable options. And Target did not disappoint it! I mean it was holiday mayhem and the store was crazy, but I was able to find a lot of cute options to add to my winter wardrobe! Keep reading to see the first edition of Fitting Room Diaries: Target Edition! I’ll share what I liked, my sizing and some different ways to style the items!

SWEATER TRY-ON

The first few items I tried on were all sweaters because the weather here in San Diego has started to get a bit chillier! Since we live close to the beach, it definitely gets chilly in the morning and night, so I needed a few sweaters that I can wear throughout the week to stay warm!

Item 1: A New Day Women’s V-Neck Ruffled Pullover ($25)

This was a fun surprise! I honestly didn’t think I would like this because I felt like the ruffled neckline might be too much! But I was pleasantly surprised with how well it draped! It comes in three different colors and would look cute paired with jeans and booties! I’m wearing a size small, and normally would be a medium so I would size down! It’s a very comfortable and cozy piece and the ruffled element gives it a feminine, chic look!

Item 2: A New Day Women’s Slouchy Mockneck Sweater ($25)

I looooooove this sweater! I’m wearing a size Medium in this photo, but switched at checkout to a size small so also size down! It’s so soft and is the perfect sweater to wear with leggings! You can wear with leggings, tennies and a jean jacket or dress it up a little and wear with Spanx Leggings, tall boots and a wide-brim hat! It’s a super versatile tunic length sweater and is honestly so soft! It comes in a ton of colors too and is only $25!

Item 3: Universal Thread Crewneck Pullover Sweater ($20)

Size up on this one if you are on the taller side! I’m wearing a large to add a bit of length to it!! It’s slightly oversized, seriously comfy and is only $20! You can totally wear this to work with some dress pants or pair it with jeans and some loafers! There are like 15 different colors so you can take advantage of the affordable price point and buy multiple!

Item 4: A New Day Women’s Loop Stitched Cardigan ($35)

Okay…so I first saw this cardigan in Instagram on someone and it was super cute! But when I saw it in stores, I wasn’t as impressed! But then I tried it on and it fit so well and has a cool vibe to it! The large loop knit gives it a cool texture and you can wear it opened or buttoned up! It’s super versatile! I love the ribbed detailing and it’s a great piece to add to your closet for those semi-chilly nights! It does run a bit oversized (wearing size small) so size down for a more fitted look!

SHIRT TRY-ON

Item 1: A New Day Ottoman Long Sleeve T-Shirt ($20)

This is characterized as a t-shirt, but I actually felt like it was more sweater material since it’s a pretty thick knit! I love the neckline and the pocket detailing! I would wear this two ways- with my Madewell Jeans shown here, some white sneakers like these, and a headband! For a slightly dressier look, you can wear with Spanx leggings, knee high boots and a faux leather jacket over! It’s a simple basic tee that can easily be dressed up or down!

Item 2: Women’s Long Sleeve Henley Neck Pointelle Shirt – Universal Thread ($14.99)

This shirt is a great basic and layering piece! It’s only $14 and comes in white also. If you are shorter than 5’9, I would stick to your normal size! Otherwise, size up for a longer fit! I loved the pointelle detailing and the beautiful blue color!

Item 3: Women’s Puff 3/4 Sleeve Top – A New Day ($20)

This pullover top features a puckered texture, puffed short sleeves with drop shoulders, and a lovely peplum hemline. It’s made of cotton and some spandex and is a cute top! I loved this dusty rose color, but would definitely size down. I’m wearing a size medium, and would have got a small if they had it in stock! This shirt would be great year-round- wear it with denim shorts in the warmer months or add a layer and your favorite jeans in the colder months!

Dresses

Item 1: Women’s Long Sleeve Ribbed Knit Sweater Dress – A New Day($29.99)

This Crewneck midi sweater dress is such a fun piece! I’m wearing a size small and love that it fits more form-fitting. You can easily dress it up or down depending on your style! I love it paired with a denim jacket and some casual sneakers! Top it off with a wide-brimmed rancher hat and you are set!

Swap out the sneakers for booties and throw on a faux leather jacket and you are ready for date night!

Item 2: Long Sleeve Sweater Dress – A New Day ($29.99)

This midi dress is similar to the previous one, although it has a hoodie and is more of a loosely-fitting dress. I’m wearing a size small and would size down to an extra-small, for a slightly better fit. I think this dress would be perfect for those who are currently pregnant too! There is enough fabric to give a little stretch and it’s a super cute casual dress that can transition into a postpartum wardrobe! I dream of putting my hair in a messy bun, slipping on this cozy dress and adding a pair of woven mules or sneakers to it! Casual yet chic!

Item 3: Puff Short Sleeve T-Shirt Dress – Universal Thread ($22)

This dress was so fun! The color looks a little more orange in pictures, but it is such a cute dress and it is actually long enough for tall girls! I’m wearing a size medium so I would say it is true to size! I love the slight volume in the sleeves! Slip it on, pair it with some braided mules and you are good to go! Easy peasy lemon squeezy!

Pajamas

Item: Women’s Plaid Fleece Lounge Sweater and Pants- Colsie ($20 sweater, $20 bottoms)

I love this pajama set! It is lined with fleece and seriously so warm and soft!! I’m wearing a size large in the top because it was seriously cropped on me, and a small in the bottoms! I love this print so much and you will find me wearing these all winter long!

Phewwwww! That was a lot of trying on! I hope seeing some of these pieces on helped give you a better idea of how they actually look on! Sometimes when I see them in store, I’m like nope! But once I try it on, I’m able to get a better idea of how it really looks and how I can style it.

I’ve been a fan of skinny jeans for a long time. So when the 90s baggier style starting making its comeback I was a little nervous bc I got flash backs of my awkward middle school years trying to rock jnco jeans hahah. Aside from my middle school trauma, is it just me but some styles look differently on shorter people!! But of course I wanted to try the trend haha. When trying new trends I first buy more affordable pieces before investing!! When I saw everyone ranting and raving about these $22 Target jeans I knew I needed them!! So, if you’re looking for affordable, trendy AND flattering jeans? The $22 Target jeans are for you!!!

Today I’m sharing the $22 Target jeans styled four ways. Four different tops that work with the jeans! I live in these sandals and thought they worked well with each top especially here on Kauai! Which of the four tops will you try?

Scuba Tank

For the first outfit I paired the $22 Target jeans we with a scuba tank. Specifically, the target’s best selling A New Day Tank. This tank is so flattering on everyone I’ve seen. Plus it adds an edgy/cool vibe to any outfit and it is only $8! Target from head to toe and loving it!

White Button Down

I wanted to pair a more feminine top with the jeans. A classic white button down added a level of sophistication while the knot with a little peek a boo of skin added some younger vibes.

Mock Turtleneck

For the cooler fall temps a mock turtleneck looks great with the these jeans! Usually turtlenecks make me feel hot and claustrophobic. The mock turtlenecks are more breathable while still feeling warm.

Puff Sleeve Top

I tend to stick to simple basic tops but decided to go out of my comfort zone with this top and I’m so happy I did! (Top is unavailable but I linked similar) I love the puff sleeves and all the ruching. The feminine top really softens the edginess of the jeans and made me feel so pretty.

Budget Friendly Jeans

The $22 Target budget friendly jeans are a great option to try the baggier jean trend! My previous post shared a few hair accessories you can also try while styling your look.

ps. if you purchase using our links we make a tiny commission. Thanks so much for supporting our dream!

Ohhh hey! It’s been like a month or two since we have done a blog post! Life has just been so insanely busy for us both! Melissa and I are both Stay at home moms to entrepreneur husbands so that often translates to them working a ton! But we are back and are so excited to be here again! Thanks for always following along with us and giving us your love and support! We do appreciate it! I wanted to jump back into things and share my favorite things I’ve been loving this past month!

A Little Life Update

We recently moved in August, just down the street, but it still involved tons of purging, packing, organizing and unpacking! It’s been exhausting but also super fun! Our new house is super cute, has tons of natural light and we’ve been slowly starting to decorate it so stay tuned for more home decor posts!!

We also started homeschooling through a charter with my oldest daughter so it’s been fun, but also busy! We have soccer, Wild and Free nature groups and all kinds of fun field trips so it definitely keeps us busy!

And we went to Disneyland! It was so much fun! We enjoyed a week at our favorite place and it made our hearts so happy to see all of the Halloween decorations!

So that’s our little update! It’s been a busy but exciting season of life for us! A little break gave me some much needed time to get my creative juices flowing again!

My Favorite Things this Past Month

I wanted to share just a few of my favorite things I’ve been loving this past month! I always love when people share their faves because it gives me new ideas or products to try! So keep reading to see what I’ve been loving lately!

Books //

I try to make it an intention to read every day and sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesn’t! This month I read two books and really loved them both!

The first book The Last Thing He Told Me by Laura Dave was literally so good!! I even stayed up way past my bedtime two nights in a row to finish it! I don’t want to give too much away but it held my attention so well and was one of my fave books of the year!

The second book, Where the Grass Is Green and the Girls Are Pretty by Lauren Weisberger, bestselling author of Devil Wears Prada was a fun read! It’s about a college admission scandal, following your heart, and the reality of perfect lives! It was more of a fun read, but I really enjoyed it! I highly recommend both books!

Hair//

The next two things I’m loving are hair products! Since we live by the beach, we are constantly swimming in the oceans and pool! Our hair gets dry so we definitely have to keep it hydrated to prevent breakage!

I’ve been using the dae Monsoon Moisture Mask for the past few months and love it! It keeps my hair soft and silky! It also has clean ingredients, smells good and looks cute in my shower! I typically only wash my hair 2-3 times a week max so I just use a tiny bit of this every time and let it sit in my hair while I shave! My hair is definitely shinier and having less breakage!

My daughter’s have pretty wavy to curly hair, and my 5 year old has super long hair! It kept getting tangled and frizzy so I bought this leave in conditioner for curly hair by Verb and it works wonders! I just put a little in the hair after bath, brush through and let it air-dry! She gets perfect little waves with no frizz! It’s magic! I tried on my fine, straight hair and it was a little too heavy for me! So I highly recommend for wavy/straight hair!

Fitness//

With our move recently and a busy schedule it has been so hard to get consistent workouts in and I’ve been left feeling in a rut! I kept getting ads for Melissa Wood Health app so I decided to download and so the seven day free trial! I ending up loving it and now pay $9.99 a month for it!

The MWH Method is a series of slow controlled, low impact movements combining yoga and Pilates to sculpt long lean lines throughout the body. Her program offers pre and post natal workouts, beginner workouts and meditations and much more! I like that she has a schedule to follow so it keeps me on track and mixes it up! I’ve been following the schedule and then adding in an extra workout on days that I have time! It’s been so good and I feel refreshed after taking each class!

To add a little intensity to my workout when you for the challenge, I use these Bala bangles! I have them in 1lb and 2lb and love them! I also try to wear them while on walks! Such an added bonus!

Clothes//

I purchased a few things this month that I am loving! I’ve always been a big fan of one-shoulder looks and found this super cute top at revolve! It comes in quite a few colors and the material really surprised me! When I purchased I thought it was going to be a cotton t-shirt material, but it was actually a thicker polyester and spandex material! I like to wear it with my hair in a bun and some hoop earrings to give it that sexy peek of shoulder look!

I also love this ribbed workout sports bra and bottoms I got from Target recently! I’ve been wearing them non-stop and love the slate blue color! The ribbing is so cute and the high-waist super flattering! I paired it with this cute little open back shirt!

I’ve also been loving this billabong dress I got last month! You can wear it so many ways! I like to wear it with booties, a hat and a chunky cardigan! I’m wearing it with this little cardigan I picked up from Amazon and it’s such an easy and comfortable outfit! This outfit will definitely be a repeat and will probably be on my list of favorite things for a while! You can easily dress up or down!

And my last favorite clothing item this month was my Gap Cheeky High- Rise straight leg denim in black! I was actually going to order the Madewell Perfect Vintage denim in black because I love the fit, but I saw these on sale and figured I should give it a try! I’m so happy I did because I love them and got so many compliments on them! I wore them at Disneyland and they were so comfortable!! Highly-recommend! I would size down one size because they do stretch out as you wear them!

Randoms//

These PeapodMats Leakproof Mattress Pads! My oldest has been potty-trained for a few years now, but instill like to keep this mat over her mattress for extra protection! They are perfect for that potty-training time when you need some reassurance and accidents happen frequently!

I’ve also been loving line art recently!! I just purchased these prints from Etsy and they are so beautiful! These will go in my bathroom and were so inexpensive! You just buy the file, print at Office Depot/Staples and put in a frame! So easy and inexpensive!

Okay! If you made it this far, you are amazing!! Thank you! Hope you enjoyed reading and found some inspiration of books torneadnos things to try! These were just some of my favorite things this past month! Leave a comment below and let us know yours!

I’m pretty sure you have been bombarded with Nordstrom Anniversary Sale picks all over Instagram lately! It’s one of the biggest sales of the year and it’s a great opportunity to stock up on basics, try some trendy pieces or purchase a few splurge worthy items on sale! I must admit I have been shopping this sale forever, but this year I felt a little ehh about it? We are currently getting ready to move so I think I am just not even thinking about anything fashion related right now! But I did go through the website and picked out a few of my favorite items from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale just in case you guys want some style advice or recommendations! Hope they are helpful for you!

The Half Yearly Sale Details

The Nordstrom Anniversary sale is a one-of-a-kind event where you’ll find amazing deals on clothing, shoes, handbags, accessories, jewelry, cosmetics, fragrances, home goods and more! It’s one of the biggest sales of the year and you can always find something amazing!

When is the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale?
Early Access to the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale starts on July 12, and the sale opens to everyone on July 28, 2021. You can shop the Anniversary Sale online starting at 3am ET/12am PT on July 28, or in person during regular store hours and the sale will end at 3am ET/12am PT on August 9! That means for most shoppers, the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale will only last for 12 days—July 28 through August 8. (Prices go up August 9.) For those with Early Access, the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale lasts for nearly a month.

Early Access is a special perk reserved for Nordstrom cardmembers. Your Nordy Club level is based on yearly spend amounts, though all cardmembers automatically start at Influencer status. You can only shop Anniversary Sale Early Access as a cardmember. If you

I highly recommend shopping online, but creating your wishlists prior to the event! Some things will sell out quickly! Last year, I stalked a pair of shoes and it literally sold out in minutes. I was so bummed and kept checking back a few times a day for restocks! I finally got them and still wear them to this day!

Top Fashion Picks for Women

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale

I am super excited for these items! Some of them I already own after buying them from previous anniversary sales and some I have on my wishlist and am getting ready to purchase! They are great pieces that you can mix and match! Just remember that even though this is a massive sale, you don’t need everything! Really look at your closet, see what pieces would make a great addition, and try and build your wardrobe! It’s easy to want to get an item because it’s trendy but if you can’t afford it or you don’t really need it, I would definitely pass!

A Little Breakdown of My Fave Items

1// Nordstrom Moonlight Short Pajamas (Sale: $29.90): I love these pajamas! I own a black pair and they are so comfortable! Definitely want to add this leopard print version to my collection! Some say it runs slightly oversize but for me it runs true to size! Also, I like to wash these with permanent press/delicates because reviews say they pill after a few washes. I haven’t experienced that when washing on delicate! These are a definite add to cart ASAP! Comes in so many colors!

I love the color of this pair, as well as the high-waist and the straight leg. They look great dressed up or down so it’s a pretty versatile pair! I always size up in Levi’s so I would recommend that as well!

4// True and CO. True Body Lift V-Neck Bralette (Sale: $37.90): I love this bra! It’s actually my go-to bra for under t-shirts! I love that it doesn’t have any seams, I can easily pull up for nursing and it doesn’t show through clothes! I will definitely be stocking up on these during the sale! They come in so many colors as well! There is also a thin-convertible strap style too!

5// Outdoor Research Trail Mix Turtleneck Pullover (Sale: $66.90): Stay warm whether you’re on the trail or planning your next adventure in this cozy, lightweight fleece top made with thermoregulating ActiveTemp™ technology! It comes in a few different colors and I love that I can wear it on beach walks or after a workout on a colder day and look stylish!

6// Daydreamer Def Leppard Hysteria Tour Graphic Tee (Sale: $44.90): I own a few of these shirts and I love them! You can’t go wrong with a graphic tee! I love how it looks when paired with a blazer, jeans and a pair of booties!

7// Zella Restore Soft Lounge Longline Bra (Sale: $29.90): This low-impact bra is great for working from home or a studio practice with its lightly supportive shelf bra and comfy, partially recycled brushed jersey material! I love these for Pilates and Yoga!

8// Free People Swim Too Deep Turtleneck Sweater (Sale: $79.90): This grandly oversized sweater that envelops you in the softness of its chunky Shaker stitch knit is the perfect sweater for fall! It’s definitely oversized so size down 1-2 sizes! You can wear as a tunic sweater with leggings or as a sweater dress with some knee-high boots! I am obsessed with the emerald green color, as well as the tan!

9// Spanx Faux Leather Leggings (Sale: $64.90): If you have been following the blog for a while, you may know that I am a major fan of these leather leggings! It’s pretty much my style staple for all of fall and winter! I sized up because they are definitely tight (have a large)!

10// Free People Gorgeous Jess Wrap Dress (Sale: $98.90): Wrapped at the waist and tied with a sweet little bow, this ankle-grazing dress will add floral charm to your warm-weather wardrobe! It’s so cute and would look so stylish with boots, a leather jacket and a hat! It would be a great option for family photos!

11// Quay Australia Its My Way 61mm Gradient Cat Eye Sunglasses (Sale: $35.90): I love these super affordable oversized cat eye sunglasses! Definitely ordering these!

12// BB DAKOTA PREP COOL PLAID LONGLINE BLAZER: (Sale: $59.90): This is one of my trendier purchases that I am leaning towards! I want to wear it with a graphic tee and my Spanx leggings! It looks effortlessly cool!

13// Adidas Swift Run X Sneaker ($56.90): Love these! I bought a pair about five sales ago and I still wear them for my workouts! I get so many compliments and they just fit great!

14// Marc Fisher Gadri Pointed Toe Bootie ($99.90): I love these stylish pointy-toe bootie with a chunky stacked heel! They are versatile and can easily elevate an outfit!

There is no denying that I have a slight obsession with hats and headbands. It all started after my first pregnancy and I had these random postpartum hairs sprouting up everywhere and basically no time to style my hair. I started out with trucker hats because I basically lived in leggings, but as time went on I started to branch out and try more and more styles of hats. It then became my most favorite accessory and truly helps me feel more put together! Over the past 4.5 years, I have really grown quite a collection! I thought I would share my top 5 favorite hats to wear year-round in case you are looking to grow your own prized hat collection.

My Most Worn Hat – Brixton Joanna Hat

No joke, this was the first hat I added to my collection 4.5 years ago and the one I get the most compliments on. It’s my all time favorite and I have had people flag me down so many times asking where I got it from and the brand. I mean if Brixton wants to sponsor me that would be amazing because they have such high-quality, yet affordable hats.

I love how this hat goes with so many different outfits too! It’s super versatile, comes in sizes XS-XL, so it will fit anyone, the wide brim provides shade while looking stylish! They have quite a few different colors and styles. I have this one with the black grosgrain band, as well as a black and natural straw patterned one that I think might be sold out! I did find some on sale now though and if you don’t like the color, you can always tie a scarf around it to cover the existing band! It’s a classic finishing touch on any spring/summer outfit!

I have this in a size small and it fits great! I probably could have done an XS, especially when my hair is straight!

This honey/red one is on sale or you can buy the natural straw/black one here! They even have a visor version as well!

The Newest Addition- Lack of Color Palma Wide Brim Hat

This was my most recent purchase in my hat collection. I had been wanting it for so long, but it was either sold out or I just couldn’t pull the trigger with the price. It is a bit on the pricier side, but it is a high-quality hat that will last for so long.

Lack of Color, an Australian brand, is like the royalty of hats! They make such quality and stylish pieces. This one, the Lack of Color Palma Wide Brim Fedora, is amazing! It’s handmade by artisans in Mexico and is made from 100% Baked Palm Leaves. It fits super great, especially with the inner elastic sweatband. It’s also a wide-brim hat so it will provide sun protection. The brim is stiff and not at all floppy, which I definitely appreciate!

I purchased it in the size Small/Medium, which fits a 55cm-57cm head! It fits great and is super neutral so I can wear it poolside in my bikini or dress it up and wear it wine tasting! It sells out so quickly so you know it’s a great hat to have in your collection!

You can find it here, here and a smaller brimmed version here! And if you like more of a boater style, shorter crown, they have this style too! So many great options!!

The Best-Selling Lack of Color Rancher Hat

Chances are you have probably seen this hat a place or two! It was so popular when it came out a few years ago and still is to this day! Whenever I wear this hat, I get tons of compliments and people asking me where I bought it. I actually won it a few years ago and have been itching to add a fun new color to my collection. They have a cute dusty rose that would be different and fun!

This classic style is inspired by the vintage Ranchers and men’s style and it definitely makes a statement. It’s a stiffened 100% wool fedora with a rigid crown. The hat is trimmed with gross grain ribbon and it comes in so many different colors. You can wear it sitting on your head or place it farther back for the more trendy look! You really can wear this with anything! I love pairing it with a midi skirt, graphic tee and some cute boots in the fall/winter months!

I think it runs a bit big so I would size down or pay close attention to your measurements. It’s a pretty stiff hat so it’s not going to mold to your head as much as others might! I have the sand color, but also love this pretty caramel color!

If you are looking for a more affordable dupe, these are two great and highly rated options. 1. Wyeth Wide Brim Sand Rancher Hat and 2. Urban Outfitters Flat Brim Felt Fedora.

This is a great style for winter and fall and can be dressed up or down! It’s super versatile and definitely one of my favorite hats!

My Very First Gigi Pip Hat- The Emma Wide Brim Fedora

Okay. I guess I have a thing for wide-brim hats?! Haha! But if it works for you, don’t change it! I just love a good wide brim hat.

I’ve been following Gigi Pip forever on Instagram, constantly bookmarking pictures or taking screenshots of their hats! I saw the Emma once on a model and was obsessed, but when I went to order it, it was sold out! Insert super sad face here! So I signed up to be emailed when they had a restock and about 4 months later they did! it just so happened to be my birthday month and I had some Gigi Pip Cash from joining their loyalty program so I promptly ordered! And let me tell you it definitely lived up to the hype!

It’s pretty similar to my Lack of Color Rancher Hat, although this one feels a bit more stiff and has a removable band that you can attach instead of ribbon! You can wear it on it’s own or add a leather band for a pop of color! I love this leopard print band so much, but it is currently out of stock! They even have fun scarves you can customize it with!

I ordered a size small in this hat and it fits great! There is also an adjustable inner band to truly customize the fit. This hat also comes in sizes XS-XL so it is great for every head shape and size!

The Perfect Hat for Active Beach Days- The Billabong Tipton Lifeguard Hat

If you are more active and need a hat that will block out the sun and stay in place, the Billabong Tipton Lifeguard Hat is perfect for you! I bought this because it was super affordable and I knew it would be the best hat to wear when I am active at the beach, either playing volleyball or chasing after my littles!

It has an adjustable chin strap so it will stay in place, even on those super windy days! I love the tropical print fabric under the brim that peeks through and gives it a cool little vibe. There are quite a few prints of this classic lifeguard style hat, but you really can’t go wrong. It’s honestly a lifesaver on those warm sunny days at the beach!

The only downside for me is that it it a one size fits all hat, so it does run pretty big on my head. However, if it is windy or I am moving a lot, I just tighten the adjustable chin strap cord and it keeps it in place.

Let me shine a light on midi skirts friends! They are seriously my obsession and something that I find I wear year-round! Not only are they super easy to wear, but I can still chase my kids around without exposing anything, while looking more stylish and put together. It’s definitely a win for me!

I know a lot of people are hesitant about midi skirts and are afraid to wear them because they don’t want to look frumpy. But they are an item that looks good on everyone! You just have to find the right fit and style! Since they are something I gravitate towards, I thought I would share a few ways to style them, as well as some tips to keep in mind! Especially for you petite girls! You can wear midi skirts also!

Midi Skirts

Tee // Skirt (Madewell from a few years ago, similar version, Hat

A midi skirt is in between a maxi skirt and a mini skirt, hence the name. The length typically hits between your knee and ankle, falling midway down your calf (although this does depend on how tall you are). Remember: you can always take your skirt to be tailored to ensure proper fit!

Current Favorites

I typically tend to gravitate towards a high slit style, because it adds movement to the outfit while elongating your look. If you are more on the petite side, this is a key style, as it won’t make you look shorter the way a more traditional midi skirt would!

Key // Remember Proportions

I think one of the most important things to remember is to balance proportions. If you choose a flowy midi skirt, try to balance out the top by pairing it with a form fitting top, bodysuit or a crop top! This is especially important if you are on the petite side. Having a defined waist will help keep the look from overpowering your frame!

Three Ways to Style a Midi Skirt

Midi Skirts Look 1 // Casual Cool

The perfect look if you are going to the park or running errands! The white tennis shoes keep it casual, while the graphic tee adds the perfect amount of “cool.” You can also wear a cropped graphic tee, like this one! I always add a little knot to my tee to add a fun little element and help define my waist! Pair it with some hoop earrings and add a classic denim jacket if you get cold and you are good to go! It’s as simple as that! Styling suggestion: If you wear a cropped tee, make sure your skirt is more high-waisted! It will help keep everything proportionate and balanced! Also,

Midi Skirts Look 2 // Chic and Edgy

This look is perfect for a date night or girl’s brunch! You can wear this year-round, depending on where you live! With some pointed toe ankle boots that elongate your legs, a black fedora hat and some dainty jewelry, you can keep this outfit chic, while adding a little bit of edge! Also keep in mind, that not every sweater is meant to be paired with skirts. I typically avoid super chunky sweaters and instead opt for a thinner material, allowing for my shirt to tuck nicely into my skirt without being bulky!

Midi Skirts Look 3 // California Cool

For this last look, it’s all about that effortless California style. Living by the beach, this is a look I wear often! It keeps me cool, makes me feel put together and is just a fun vibe! You can wear a simple crop tank or a bodysuit! I love one that has feminine details like the shoulder tie-straps! Pair it with some sandals and a wicker-style crossbody and you are ready to go! This is something I would wear shopping, as it’s easy to slip in and out of!

Don’t let midi skirts intimidate you! They are so easy to wear and instantly elevate your style! Hope this post helped spark some inspiration for how to style them!

Today’s post is about wearing what makes me happy, which happens to be a lounge set!

I believe its important to wear what makes you feel happy, without getting caught up with dressing for body type, age, trends or occupation (sahm 😉). When you feel happy in what you wear your confidence will shine through! For too long I stressed about looking “fat”, not covered up enough, or how others thought I should dress, so it feels great to dress without all of that internal dialogue!!

If there is a certain fashion trend you’re wanting to try, try it! A blogger I follow said she also struggles with stepping out of her fashion comfort zone, but usually after 3 times wearing the new item, it feels more her. I took that advice to heart.

Say “yes” to new things

One of the benefits of this pandemic is that it’s caused me to say “yes” to new things and not overthink as much. Anyone else have some serious self growth during the pandemic?? So I decided to buy a lounge set!! Not a huge victory but baby steps, right?? Seriously though, I’d see so many women looking amazing in a lounge set and would tell myself I would never look good in one because I’m short and curvy. (We can be so unkind to ourselves!) But I ignored those thoughts and got a lounge set anyway!

1 lounge set, 3 ways

I found a super cute lounge set from Hello Honey, a small shop I discovered on Instagram and decided to style 1 lounge set, 3 ways.

It’s the perfect green for winter, super soft and ribbed. Check out the lounge set here (it also comes in other colors)!

Lounge set-Style 1

For style 1, I wore the complete lounge set. As I shared above, the material is so soft I felt super comfortable. The pants are high waisted and have an elastic waist band, which is a combo I love. I also love the wider leg of the pant. I get so hot wearing fitted pants so I was on the hunt for non fitted pants for our tropical winter. The shirts is slouchy/boxy, which I love as well.

The top and bottom together for option 1 was a lot of fabric for my frame but I didn’t mind it! The strong winds the day we were out, however, gave the impression of a looser fit. If they had a smaller size it would be nice to compare. If you prefer a more fitted lounge set, I’d suggest sizing down.

Lounge set- Style 2

For Style 2, I wanted to see how the lounge set top would look with more fitted bottoms. So I paired the top with my Abercrombie mom shorts. (Side note: these shorts are super flattering and work it you have more athletic legs and a butt. They are currently on sale for $12!) The wind get even stronger and it started raining so we had to run to the car after a couple shots so I didn’t get to try other styling I had planned. I later tried tucking the hem of the shirt into my bra and loved that look too!

Style 3

For the final variation, style 3, I chose a fitted top with the lounge bottoms. I wore an Abercrombie body suit, which is comfortable and has good stretch. I also added a straw hat to the outfit! This was actually my favorite of the 3 looks because I think its perfect for winter in Kauai!

Wear what makes YOU happy

I hope that me taking a small step outside of my fashion comfort zone has inspired you to do the same and wear what makes you happy! Or even just try a style that you never considered! Life is too short to limit your closet due to self-sabotaging beliefs. 🙂 Have you tried any new fashion trends recently? Share them with us!!

A great way to try fashion trends before committing to them is with the Nuuly subscription box, check out Kari’s post on it to learn more about it!

nuuly outfits

Hey friends! I recently discovered this new clothing subscription service called NUULY, thanks to Instagram ads and late night nursing sessions. I’ve tried a lot of different subscriptions in the past, but never really found anything I loved or at least stuck with. While browsing their website, I learned they are actually created by URBN ( the company responsible for the brands Urban Outfitters, Free People and Anthropologie)! I also saw they carried some other brands I really like AGOLDE, ASTR the Label, Saltwater Luxe and Flynne Skye.

Since we have upcoming holiday photos and I need to find an outfit, I decided it would be the perfect time to try this subscription and see what happens!

How it Works//

You pay $88 (plus tax) and you receive 6 items of your choosing. It can be completely customized for what you want. One month you can choose 6 sweaters, or 3 dresses, jeans, and shirts! They even have jackets and coats so if you are going on vacation somewhere cold, you can add those to your cart!

You get to keep the clothes for a month, and at the end of the month if you decide you really loved a piece then you can purchase it at a discount. Win-Win!

Additional features

  • laundry and dry cleaning are included
  • no late fees or damage fees
  • you can cancel/pause your subscription at any time
  • fast, free shipping!

I also really loved that you can read customer reviews and see the items on real people who left reviews! It really helped me narrow down sizing or steer away from certain clothes based on my body type or height! So helpful!

My First Nuuly Order//

Item 1// Portobello Road Blouse by the Brand Spell (retails for $179). This top is gorgeous! It feels so soft, is flowy and the colors are perfect for fall. I really liked it, as long as it was semi-tucked into my jeans to create more of a shape. Perfect with a pair of skinny jeans and a bootie!

Item 2// Dean Goldie Mini Dress by the brand Auguste (retails for $149) I was immediately drawn to this dress for family photos. I ordered my true size and it fit perfectly. This was my definitely my favorite piece out of all the items. I really loved the feminine details with the ruffled sleeves and the cutout back! I paired it with my favorite block heel bootie and Lack of Color Zulu Rancher Hat and am seriously considering this outfit for our family photos!

Item 3// Free People Borderline Tunic (retails for $128) This dress checked all of the boxes for me when I saw it online! I fell in love with the high neckline and the open back. However, once I tried it on, it fell a little short. The back makes it a little hard to find a bra to wear with it. It was also a little too flowy for me, creating a slightly boxy look! I saw it on some other NUULY customers and it was so cute, but I don’t think it is the best for my body type!

Item 4// Free People Rose Valley Printed Blouse (retails for $108) The first time I tried on this blouse, I wasn’t the biggest fan. It has exaggerated, wide ruffle sleeves that made me feel like there was just too much fabric. But after I wore it once or twice, I really grew to love it! It has a cute banded waist and was just effortlessly chic!

Item 5 // Carrie Tiered Tunic Dress from Anthropologie (retails for $138) I love the deep green color of this dress. I followed the reviews and ordered a size down, however, I probably could have done two sizes down. It is definitely flowy. I actually think it would be perfect as a maternity dress! This dress is so easy to just throw on with a pair of sandals, which probably explains why I wore it twice in one week!

Item 6 // Romilly Kimono by the brand Bl-NK (retails for $128). I love the colors of this kimono. I paired it with my go to bodysuit from Abercrombie and my new skinny jeans (also from Abercrombie)! It was a cute outfit, although it kept slipping off my shoulders throughout the night. It only comes in ONE SIZE, so I probably wouldn’t order again!

Final Thoughts//

Overall, I am pleasantly surprised with this box! The value of the entire box was $830, but I only paid $88! I think it is a great option for people who have a specific event they are going to or to try new trends without committing to purchasing the actual items. This would also be a great option for postpartum moms, whose bodies are still changing after giving birth!

I’m excited to pick out some new styles from the NUULY website and try them on for you next month! NUULY even has an app, which definitely helps make the decision process a bit easier.

Also on a little side note, I do not own a full-length mirror and absolutely hate taking photos so this was so hard for me to do! This was actually my second time attempting to shoot these looks, but the lighting was so off. I wanted to redo the shots so I enlisted my almost 4-year old daughter to help me! I sat her on a chair and she took all of the shots for me and was so sweet! We had so much fun and it definitely helped me feel more comfortable in front of the camera!

What is your favorite outfit? Leave a comment and let me know!

Thanks for reading!

xoxo, Kari
