Do you shave your face? It’s actually more common than you think for women to shave their faces! If you want to say goodbye to unwanted face hair and hello to younger skin, try dermaplaning.
Not ready to make the investment for a salon treatment, then do it at home! It was one of the best things I did for my unwanted face hair and I’m so glad I tried it! Today I’m going to share why I shave my face and a few tricks I’ve learned through my years of face shaving!
Why I Shave My Face
If your natural hair is on the darker side then you know the struggle of dark facial hair! From above lip, side burns, and between my eyebrows my dark facial hair has killed my vibe since puberty haha. Which Is why I started looking for methods to remove my hair at a young age!! I’ve tried different things including:
- Plucking—takes forever and hurts!
- Waxing—not 100% effective and I’m still left with unwanted hair.
- Nair—the smell is disgusting and with such harsh chemicals it couldn’t have been good for me. Also, not 100% effective leaving some strays behind.
- Facial hair bleach—burned my skin and eyes, so definitely not safe haha but it was pretty effective so I used it a lot until I became pregnant! However not very natural looking!
With all of those options not really doing it for me, and fortunately I saw a YT of someone shaving their face and decided to give it a try! Initially I used it for the purpose of removing facial hair but have experienced many more positives.
Biggest Face Shaving Myth
I was really hesitant to shave my face for fear that my hair would get thick and itchy like a man!! I’ve been shaving my face for 5+ years and my hair is still fine!! So don’t let that biggest face shaving myth get in your way of trying it out!!
Dermaplaning 101
Dermaplaning is essentially shaving but gets much deeper than just removing hair. A big difference is the smaller blade with dermaplaning. Estheticians actually use a tool that resembles a scalpel to get deeper into the skin. Dermaplaning allows dead surface skins cells to be removed helping with anti-aging. In addition to saying goodbye to all your peach fuzz.
Your skin will be sooo super soft and smooth. Which allows makeup to go on easier and more natural looking!
• I usually shave my face after I’ve washed it at night. I dry my face and while it’s still freshly washed I start.
• Hold the blade at a 45 degree angle and with the opposite hand pull near the skin section I’m going to shave. Creating a bit of tension.
• I do short strokes and enjoy seeing all the peach fuzz fall off!! Haha weird I know. If I have an active pimple I avoid shaving over it.
• when I’ve finished I brush off any fuzz and moisturize!!
•sometimes my skin is a little irritated after I shave but subsides within 20 mins.
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you have sensitive skin I would suggest doing a test section first to see how your face skin responds to it!
WIFE TIP! If your man is reluctant to groom his brows bc tweezing is too painful, have him try shaving!! Once I introduced these small razors to my husband he didn’t fight me when it was time to clean up his uni-brow 😉
Benefits of Dermaplaning
Before I even know I was Dermaplaning I did it solely for removing peach fuzz! But there are other benefits I’ve experienced!!
-skin is soooo soft after! Feels like baby skin!!
-make up goes on a lot better and I feel like I don’t need as much!!!
-with the removal of the dead skin cells, moisturizers, anti-aging creams, make-up, etc., absorb better into the skin which really does help with aging!!
What I Use
I’ve been using Tinkle blades forever and bought a huge stock that has lasted me a long time. I don’t love that they are plastic so I’m looking for a more sustainable option!!
I add some coconut oil or a favorite moisturizer post dermaplaning. Your skin will feel extra soft and it will be absorbed all night long!
