Has motherhood changed your sense of style? It sure did with mine! I used to love wearing flowy maxi dresses, rompers and getting more dressed up. But now, I find myself gravitating towards items that are more functional, but still stylish. I mean have you tried nursing a baby while wearing a dress or romper? Or chasing your toddler at the park constantly? You need to wear something that you don’t mind getting dirty and can run around in! With that in mind, I put together 3 different style guides: mom edition so you can gain some inspiration!
I actually read that one of the most beneficial things for moms is to get dressed every morning, out of your pajamas and into something else. Just something as simple as doing a 5-minute makeup routine, throwing on a bold lip (check out Melissa’s post for some cute lip options) and putting a little effort into your outfit can really help get out of the mom funk!
So here we go…3 style guides: Mom Edition
Mom Life Outfit #1: Running Errands
This is one of my go-to outfits when I need to run errands! I want to be casual, able to lift groceries easily, and still be stylish. This outfit helps me feel put together, while allowing me to nurse, chase kids and feel confident!
- Oversized Sweater: I am currently living in oversized sweaters and leggings. The one pictured in this graphic is from American Eagle and is budget friendly. It’s currently on sale for $35!! If you don’t love an oversize fit, I recommend sizing down. They have it in so many different colors, but I personally love the dusty brown and olive. I really love the side slits (easy for nursing) and the reverse seam detail! Cute but comfortable.
- High-Waisted leggings: I love these OFFLINE Real Me High Waisted Leggings from AERIE. They are actually a dupe for the ever popular Lululemon Align Pant, which I also love! I find myself reaching for them constantly and loving how they fit my body! They also come in tall sizes (when you are 5’9, you need tall or everything is majorly cropped) and are always on sale! I think I own at least 5 pairs! If you are pregnant, these are a great option also!
- Knotted Headband: These are my go-to! I literally let my hair air-dry 90% of the time and just throw on a headband and it helps me feel instantly put together! I love the headbands from Anthropologie. Here are a few of my favorites // knotted headband, velvet embellished headband, and sweater-knit headband.
- Best Sunnies Ever: Can I tell you a secret? I have never loved sunglasses and have always thought they don’t suit my face, until I came across these sunnies by Diff! These are my favorite sunnies ever and I have them in two colors! They are slightly oversized but not crazy and they are such good quality!
- A reusable water bottle: This is a must-have for every mom, especially those who are nursing! It keeps you hydrated, but also helps your skin glow and flush out any toxins! I love my trusty Hydroflask, but this budget-friendly one from Target is also a great choice!
- A cute pair of sneakers: I love these New Balance sneakers that have a cute little leopard print detail. They are super popular and run out of stock all the time, but I found a cute black and a grey color in them! These add a little pop of fun to any outfit, making it appear as if you put more effort!
Mom Life Outfit #2: Playdate at the Park
Playdates at the park are my favorite! The kids get to play, the moms get to have some adult conversation and everyone is left feeling fulfilled! This outfit is one that makes me feel stylish, but still allows for me to go down the slide if needed! It’s cute, comfortable and stylish!
- A graphic tee: I love graphic tees! I probably own more of these then I need because I wear them to workout in and also wear them year round. Jean shorts and a graphic tee during summer and jeans a graphic tee during the colder months! Definitely a go to momiform! I love this Billabong tee (under $30) and this Rolling Stones graphic tee!
- A boyfriend jean/mom jean: I love a good pair of boyfriend jeans that allow me to move without feeling restrictive. I don’t really love jeans that have a stretch in them so these are perfect. My current faves are the Perfect Vintage Jean from Madewell. I own these in a few colors and they are on major sale right now! I love that they also carry Tall sizes! Size down in these jeans because they do run big! For a more budget-friendly alternative, Target has this pair from Wild Fable brand and I loved them. I did have to return because they were too short, but the fit was perfect!
- Dolce Vita Shoes: This pair is currently on sale, have amazing reviews and are very versatile! They also have a classic white pair! You can wear them with jeans, a dress, or with workout leggings for a casual look! Everyone needs a casual, versatile shoe in their mom closet!
- Crossbody bag: I hardly ever use my diaper bag so whenever I go to the park, I just take my crossbody bag and put the essentials in it. I like this faux-leather crossbody, as well as this one too! They are both great quality and just roomy enough to carry everything I need.
- Accessories to layer: I have a few of these Power Gemstone bracelets from Gorjana that I love. I like to stack a few of them and wear them daily. They just help me feel a little more put together. Here are a few I own // this beautiful green, a calming gemstone color, and this abundance gemstone bracelet. I also love this necklace from Gorjana. This necklace is the perfect way to always keep a piece of the sun-kissed beach lifestyle with you!
Mom Life Outfit #3: Rainy Day Edition
It’s winter and we are finally seeing some cold and rainy days here in San Diego! While I love having year-round sun, it is also nice to experience some kind of alternate weather! On rainy days, we always head outside and jump in puddles or go on scavenger hunts! Something about the rain just makes them feel more adventurous! Here is an outfit I would wear out in the rain or when the weather is on the chilly side!
- A cowl neck sweater: I used to love wearing scarves, but because my hair is pretty fine, it gets tangled so easily in the back if I wear one! So I found a great alternative to keeping my neck warm, but not getting dreads in the back…a cowl neck sweater. I love this one from Nordstrom and it’s currently on sale. I own it in black and this rust color and love them both! It’s also a great length for wearing with leggings. Be sure to size down because it does run a bit big!
- Spanx Leggings: I got a pair two years ago when I was pregnant but never wore them. This year I found them in my closet and have been wearing them non-stop! I love wearing them with an oversized sweater and they are so flattering! Reviews said you are supposed to size up in them as they are more form-fitting. I typically wear a size medium (size 6-8), but got a size large and they fit perfectly! For a budget-friendly option, American Eagle has these ones that have great reviews and are under $35!
- Chelsea Boots: I love these Chelsea boots. They are a flat boot with no heel, slight platform, water-resistant and super comfortable! I just purchased these a few weeks ago and have been loving them! I order my true size! Boots are always an investment piece for me because I know they are something I will use for years to come! At $99, they are a bit pricey, but they are super versatile! You can wear them with boyfriend jeans, a graphic tee, oversized cardigan and a Rancher hat for a fun casual look or dress them up a bit too! The options are endless!
- A cozy beanie: I wear this Topshop beanie all the time when the weather gets cold, as well as this one from Abercrombie! I never do my hair when it’s raining, so throwing on a beanie gives me an elevated style!
- A clear umbrella: This is one of my go to umbrellas because it goes with everything and has a dome shape, allowing for extra coverage from the rain! It’s perfect and easy to open!
- A reusable coffee mug: I know it’s not a fashion-related item, but it is one of my go to accessories on cold days! I love sipping on a hot coffee or tea throughout the day to keep my warm and this mug definitely gets the job done!
Thanks for following along and I hope these style guides: mom edition help provide some inspiration for all you fellow mama’s out there! As we navigate motherhood, it’s so common to start neglecting ourselves, but it is so important to find things that keep you feeling like yourself! I’ve always loved fashion so getting a little dressed up helps me feel better, more confident and like I haven’t just become a milk-stained zombie haha!
I hope everyone is having a great new year so far!
